Efficient Milking Parlour Upgrade at Vestergård with a DairyMaster Carousel

Efficient Milking Parlour Upgrade at Vestergård with a DairyMaster Carousel

Milcotec has successfully completed a major milking parlour upgrade at Vestergård, where an older DeLaval parlour has been replaced by a modern 60-stall DairyMaster rotary carousel.

This project marks a significant technological step forward, delivering improved workflow, higher efficiency and a more user-friendly working environment. In this article, we follow the project from the initial groundwork to final commissioning and daily operation.

Project Kick-Off: Groundwork and Preparations

The project began with extensive preparation of the collecting yard area. This phase was crucial, as access, material logistics and timing played a key role in keeping the project on schedule.

Ole from Milcotec shared updates directly from the site, where excavation work prepared the foundation for the future carousel. Once the ground was ready, focus shifted to casting the central plinth, which forms the rotating base of the carousel.

At the same time, drainage systems and conduit pipes for cables were installed, ensuring all infrastructure was in place before moving on to the next construction phase. The team carefully prepared the floor areas where milkers would later work, creating a solid and ergonomic foundation for daily operation.

Assembly and Construction of the Carousel

With pillars installed and concrete floors completed, the assembly of the DairyMaster carousel began. This phase required precision, coordination and close cooperation between multiple teams.

The drive motors were installed, and the platform where cows stand during milking was filled with concrete. Ensuring stability at this stage was critical, as the platform must support both livestock and heavy equipment over many years of operation.

As the project progressed, more detailed components were added. Milk meters, vacuum pipelines and teat spray systems were installed, while the wash room was finalised. Technicians from both Denmark and the Netherlands worked together to integrate all systems seamlessly.

A key feature of the installation is the ClusterCleanse system, which automatically cleans the milking clusters between cows, contributing to hygiene, udder health and consistent milking quality.

Finalisation and Start-Up

In the final phase, the last teat cups and teat spray nozzles were installed once the epoxy flooring had fully cured. The project was completed according to plan, allowing Vestergård to begin milking just before Easter.

After only 10 days of commissioning, the carousel was running at full capacity. The result was immediate: significant time savings, smoother workflows and a more efficient daily routine for the farm staff.

A Future-Ready Milking Parlour

Today, Vestergård operates a state-of-the-art DairyMaster rotary parlour that delivers both operational efficiency and long-term cost savings. The new setup supports faster milking, improved hygiene and a better working environment.

Dairy Systems Denmark would like to thank everyone for the great interest shown throughout the project and looks forward to welcoming visitors for an open-house event in the future. More projects are already underway, including the construction of a new Swing-Over parlour in Central Jutland.
